Simon Belshaw – Music Machines Volume 1

By 44faced on Sep 20, 2026 in Music - 0 Comments

“Music Machines Volume 1” by Simon Belshaw is an ambient and experimental contemporary classical project built around quiet, meditative compositions that explore texture, timbre, silence, and the interplay of traditional and contemporary musical processes. Featuring Music Machine 26, Music Machine 28, Music Machine 29, and Music Machine 34, the four recordings combine traditional scores, web-based scores, technology, and live performance to create distinctive works shaped by fading, contrasting musical lines, and a deliberately spacious pace.

Simon Belshaw is a composer from Exeter, United Kingdom, who studied composition with Gavin Bryars and completed his PhD at the University of Hertfordshire in 2005. His work has been performed by ensembles in New York, Montreal, Belfast, and across the UK, while his broader practice includes multimedia installations and the ongoing Music Machines project, which has involved more than 40 machines across the country.
